Pine Knot – Hundreds of Highland Telephone customers were without phone service last Thursday after copper thieves stole hundreds of feet of wire from service lines along Hwy. 92 near Davis Hill.

Catron relieved of tourism duties

Kathy Catron, who has helmed the office of tourism in McCreary County for two years, has been dismissed from her duties. 

Late Friday afternoon, Catron forwarded an email from her official tourism address to around 30 correspondents stating, “that after today, I will not be receiving emails at this address.”
“I appreciate all the support my new friends have shown me the past years,” Catron said adding she would explain the situation to her family “later.”

No conflict of interest in school board bank bid

McCreary County School Board Chairwoman Joyce Kidd did not appear to have a conflict of interest in a 2006 Board decision, according to a finding from the Office of Education Accountability (OEA) released last week.
In a letter sent to Ms. Kidd, obtained through an open records request, the OEA informed Kidd that the office had completed an inquiry into a complaint received regarding a decision to deposit school district funds into a bank where she was employed, and a possible conflict of interest in the decision.

Jailer presents budget

Jailer Tony Ball submitted his budget to the Fiscal Court Tuesday, requesting nearly $175,000 more than currently budgeted, for jail operations in the upcoming fiscal year.
