Thursday, 28 June 2007
It was a week of firsts for Lucas Waters: his first game as a professional ballplayer, his first at-bat, first hit, first run, first RBI and first double-play turned.
In Waters’ first game as a pro with the Jamestown Jammers in the New York-Penn League on Wednesday, he finished 0-2 in a 7 inning 4-1 loss, but he did start a double-play from third in the fourth inning.
His first at-bat came in the second inning, resulting in a line-out. In the fifth Lucas flew out to centerfield.
On Thursday Waters got his first career hit in his second start at third for the Jammers. The momentous hit came in the bottom of the seventh with a ground-ball up the middle into centerfield. Waters finished the game 1-4 with a line-out, fly-out to left and a strikeout in the ninth.
After sitting out Friday and Saturday, Waters got the chance to showcase his glove at short as the Jammers took on State College. In an 11-1 win for Jamestown, Waters finished the game 1-4 with a run scored, one driven in and his first stolen base.
After a ground-out in the second inning, Waters delivered in the top of the fourth, driving in a runner from second on a line-drive base-hit to left field. Waters stole second and scored on a double to give the Jammers a 3-0 lead.
Waters popped out in the 6th and flied out to left in the 8th before finishing the 9th with a walk.
Tuesday night the Jammers traveled to Williamsport where they defeated the Crosscutters 2-1. Waters collected 20 hits, including a double in four at-bats and scored a run in the win.
In his first week with the Jammers Waters batted .286 (4-14) with two runs, one RBI and a stolen base.
In four games, Waters has not committed an error on 10 chances and assisted on three double plays.
