Contrary to published reports, no arrests have been made and no charges are pending against two McCreary County teenagers who allegedly downloaded child pornography off the internet. According to Kentucky State Police Detective Billy Correll, an investigation into the possible use of the internet to download illegal pornographic images was initiated by the Internet Crimes Against Children Department of the Harriman Police Department in Morgan County Tennessee. The investigation led detectives to an IP address in McCreary County and the information was forwarded to the Kentucky State Police. Detective Correll, aided by the KSP Electronic Crimes Section out of Frankfort, picked up the investigation and interviewed the suspects in the case. “Based upon the evidence we were able to obtain, there was not sufficient grounds to prosecute anyone in the case,” Detective Correll stated, adding that the case is closed. The story first appeared last week on Knoxville news station WBIR and was reprinted in the McCreary County Record. The story stated the two teen boys were arrested for uploading a pornographic video apparently containing girls between the ages of 13 and 16 years old, but no arrests were made. Detective Correll asks if anyone suspects someone of being involved in child pornography (explicit photographs or videos of children under the age of 18) to please contact the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555 or (606) 878-6622 or the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office at (606) 376-UTIP (8847) or (606) 376-2322. |
