“I’m back.”
“I’m back.” These two simple words spoke volumes Wednesday as Chris Hubbs marked his return as Choral Director at McCreary Central High School. For many McCreary Countians, Hubbs played a major role in defining the musical direction at the high school, serving in the school system for 28 years and leading the Choir for many of them. “He doesn’t just raise the bar,” Principal Sharon Ross said. “He is the bar.” “We are so excited to have him back. We expect him to bring back the high standards and expectations he had of the students, and I know they will respond.” Hubbs said he is back on a year-by-year basis right now, willing to return to the thing he loves best. “I love my field,” he said. “And I love working with students.” “It feels like my life is one big circle,” he added. “The more I’ve been in the building, the more comfortable I feel.” Hubbs left McCreary Central in 1998 to “try my hand at administration,” he said. Mary Jones took over the program the following year and carried on the tradition until 2007 when she retired. Jennifer Murphy taught the class, but the position came open again after her transfer to another school. Hubbs said he is already preparing for the Christmas Concert, and hopes to reconnect with his former students. |
