Grand Jury indicts 15

The Grand Jury has indicted 15 persons this month, the result of investigations in 10 separate cases. Though most of the indictments are theft-related, two of the cases are the result of investigation into alleged child abuse. • Andrew Spliethof, 50, along with Sarah Spliethof, 26, both of Strunk were jointly named in an indictment Monday. The indictment charges both with one count of first-degree criminal abuse. According to the indictment, the pair “failed to provide adequate nourishment” to a 6-month old infant.
Andrew Spliethof was named in a separate indictment that charges the man with failure to comply with sex offender registration, the indictment says Spliethof, a previous convicted sex offender, failed to register his address or change of address as stipulated by law.
• Donda Lay, of Whitley City, was indicted Monday on a charge of third-degree criminal abuse. The indictment states Lay allegedly committed the offense on September 4. She is accused of “recklessly abusing” a child under the age of 12 by whipping the child in a manner that resulted in injuries.
• In another case, Gary L. Jones, of Strunk, was indicted on one count of first-degree sexual abuse after being accused of having sexual contact with a male less than 12 years of age.
• Keith Allen Bruce, 25; Nickie James Perry, 23; Nickie Lee Jones, 45; and Bessie J. Perry Jones, 40, were jointly named in an indictment returned Monday. The indictment accuses all four individuals of receiving stolen property over $500 after allegedly being found in possession of a stolen heating and air conditioning unit. Bruce and Nickie James Perry were also charged with being persistent felony offenders.

• In a separate case, Keith Allen Bruce and Nickie James Perry were again charged with receiving stolen property over $500 after authorities say the men were in possession of a stolen heating and air conditioning unit. The unit was reportedly stolen from the Kid Zone Learning Center on August 1. Charges of being persistent felony offenders were also returned against the two individuals.
• Victor Meadows, 33, and Tammy Meadows, 39, (A/K/A Tammy Kidd, Tammy Watson, Tammy Worley), both of Strunk, have been indicted in a case that accuses the pair of burglarizing the Southern Kentucky Off Road Complex. The indictment says that on September 10, the pair broke into a concession stand at the raceway and allegedly took various food items, drinks and a grill. Both individuals have been charged with third-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking over $500. Tammy Meadows was also charged with being a persistent felony offender.
• Darren Ray Strunk of Whitley City, has been charged with six counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument following the return of indictments Monday. According to the indictment, Strunk on several occasions in August, had cashed several checks (totaling $580) that were forged and drawn on the account of another individual. Strunk was also charged with being a persistent felony offender.
• Jacey Ball, 22, of Pine Knot, faces charges on three counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument. The indictment states the woman, on three occasions in June, possessed and cashed forged checks (totaling $149) drawn on the account of another individual (s).

• Gary W. Perry, 21, of Whitley City; Jordyn Perry, 20, of Whitley City and Angel Wilson, 23, of Stearns were indicted together Monday and charged with one count of manufacturing methamphetamine. The indictment says the individuals were allegedly found in possession of two or more chemicals used in manufacturing “with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.” Gary W. Perry was also indicted on a charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance after he was allegedly found in possession of Oxycodone by Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Browning.

The Voice would like to remind our readers that a grand jury indictment is not an indication of one’s guilt in a matter, but merely represents enough evidence exists to pursue a case further in a court of law.
