McCreary Central Football Coach Clinton Gay and Raiders’ quarterback Aaron Watts will be honored Friday during the Class 4A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Championship game at Houchens-LT Smith Stadium at Western Kentucky University. Watts was selected as District Player of the Year after rushing for 1,101 yards and passing for 530 over 11 games. The Raiders’ Senior accounted for 22 Raider touchdowns and was also one of the leading tacklers on defense. Gay was chosen as the District Coach of the year after leading the Raiders to a 7-4 record and their third consecutive playoff appearance. “It is a very prestigious honor,” Gay said. “With all the quality coaches in the District, it says a lot for our program to be chosen.” “All praise should go to God for the success we had. Very few people get the chance to coach a second time at the same school like I had.” Gay gave credit for the honor to his staff, who have dedicated a lot of time and effort into the past few seasons. “”My assistant coaches deserve a lot of this honor,” he said. “I’ve always said that this is the best staff we have every had at McCreary Central.” Gay was also selected to be an assistant coach during the annual Border Bowl in January. “It is a positive reflection on this program and this coaching staff,” he said. |
