Do the future elected leadersof McCreary County know what issues are important to you? Come and find out this weekend during the first round of “political speakings” to be held this election season.
All candidates, regardless of office or party affiliation, are highly encouraged to attend the events and let the voters know their qualifications and platforms. The events held this Saturday are the first two in a series of five to be held ahead of the May 18 Primary Election. The first event will take place in Pine Knot, off Hwy. 92, at Donald Dickman’s Music Barn at 12 p.m. That event will be followed later in the day with a 5 p.m. speaking held at the Eagle Community Center on Hwy. 90. “All candidates need to come out to these events and state their case, so to speak, for the voters,” said Alice Bryant, one of the organizers of the stump series. Bryant added that in addition to local candidates, voters might hear the platform of those seeking higher offices. Bryant said she has sent an invite and schedule of events to all candidates seeking state and federal office this election season. For the first two events on Saturday, candidates will each be given five minutes on stage to address the voters. These events will be more casual than those to follow at which candidates will have more time on stage and be given questions to answer regarding their stance on local issues. Other events will take place on April 10 in downtown Stearns, April 24 in Smithtown and May 15 at the McCreary County Courthouse. The 2010 Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, May 18. Polls will open at 6 p.m. For more information on the political speaking events, please call (606) 354-3643. We also ask that anyone wishing to submit questions to be asked of candidates this election season, submit them to
