After dropping their first two games of the season, the Lady Raiders have rebounded, winning four of their last five to improve their record to 4-3 on the year. Tuesday night, taking on the Monticello Lady Trojans, McCreary struggled at times, but still managed to pour on the offense, posting their first District win of the season with a 16-6 victory in 6 innings. McCreary got on the board in the bottom of the second when Jordan Adkins scored on a Chelsea Smith grounder, and added two more in the third when Tiffany Toth’s double plated Lauren Pennington and Jennifer Vanover to give the Lady Raiders a 3-0 lead. Monticello took advantage of some Lady Raider errors in the top of the third, scoring three unearned runs before the defense settled down and got out of trouble. Kisha Gibson reached on a walk in the bottom half of the frame and scored three batters later on a wild pitch to retake the lead 4-3. The Lady Raider bats finally started to heat up in the fifth, scoring 6 runs for a 10-3 advantage. Toth led off with a single, followed by two successful bunts by Jamie Bennish and Brianna Taylor. Gibson reached on a fielders’ choice, scoring Toth. Chelsea Smith stepped to the plate and lined a shot to deep center field, scoring both runners. Smith tore around the bases and slid home ahead of the tag to complete the inside-the-park home run. McCreary added two more runs in the inning when Bryanna Hodge and Taniesha Vanover scored on Toth’s second hit of the inning. Monticello answered the rally with another 3-run inning in the top of the sixth. But McCreary put the game away in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Raiders loaded the bases with no outs and Smith drove home two runs with a single to center. Hodge’s single drove in two more for a 14-6 lead. Hodge would later score on a wild pitch. Taniesha Vanover followed with a walk, and pinch runner Lyndsey Vanover would score the winning run on a wild pitch for the 16-6 victory. Tiffany Toth finished 3-4 with 4 RBI and Chelsea Smith went 2-3 with 6 batted in to lead McCreary to their fourth win of the season. McCreary travels to Madison Southern this weekend to play in a tournament, and will return home on Monday afternoon to take on Casey County. |
