James Eugene Wilson and Anna Michelle (Bell) Sexton appeared in McCreary Circuit Court last week where Judge Paul Braden ordered the 12-year sentence.
In June of 2009, Wilson, 30, and Sexton, 35, were jointly indicted as part of the Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force Operation Summer Cleanup. The pair were just two of 34 individuals targeted during the roundup after a year long undercover investigation into the trafficking of prescription pills.
Following their arrest at the time, Sexton was charged with one count of trafficking in a controlled substance and being a persistent felony offender. Wilson was charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and being a persistent felony offender.
In October of last year, the couple’s names again appeared among a list of indictments. At that time, the pair were targeted along with 17 other individuals as part of a 6-month undercover investigation conducted by UNITE and the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest of Sexton and Wilson brought additional charges against them for trafficking in a controlled substance. Sexton was charged in the case on three counts and Wilson one.
A prior court appearance led to both Sexton and Wilson entering a guilty plea in the matter. In court on Tuesday, Judge Braden sentenced each to serve a total of 12 years for the crime. Sexton was credited with time served of 63 days while Wilson was given credit for 84 days served.
Judge Braden ordered Sexton and Wilson to be remanded to the Department of Corrections to begin their sentence.

In other court news:

James L. Gosnell Jr. appeared before Judge Braden last Tuesday for final sentencing on charges of 1st degree sexual abuse (victim under the age of 12). Gosnell, 31, was indicted on the charge last June. On Tuesday, he was sentenced to serve 8 years behind bars and upon release from jail, undergo a 5 year period of supervised probation.
