A manager of a local health clinic is pushing a plan for the county jail that she says could save the county thousands of dollars each year. Jeanne Strunk, Practice Administrator for McCreary Primary Care, told county officials during last week’s meeting they “are spending way too much on drug costs at the jail.” Strunk wants to put together a proposal for medical care for inmates, have county officials approve that proposal and then put the proposal out to bid for health care providers. |

The Kentucky Department of Education has extended the deadline for applicants to fill the vacant seat on the McCreary County School Board. The April 11 resignation of Rebecca Gregory from the Board created the vacancy, which, under state law, must be filled within 90 days. The original deadline for applicants was last Friday, but the KDE decided to extend the deadline to June 2 after only a small number of applications were received. |

Revenues from the county’s occupational tax have increased for the second consecutive financial quarter. The county has realized $410,027 over the last quarter (February 16, 2008 through May 15, 2008) a report issued last week shows. The figure is an increase over the same period in 2007 when $385,572 was collected through the occupational tax. This is the second straight quarter of growth for the occupational tax, despite high unemployment rates and an unstable economy. |
